If your ancient culture is so advanced why has it just done the same as this evil empire did 60+ years old? What have you learned from this evil empire?

Also where are you getting your facts from, South Korea has one of the most suppressed Internet controls in the world. Please supply an example where a country which has said amount of control and aggressive propagated have been of benefited?

Time changes everything. How far has the world gone since this evil empire breathed its last dying breath? When these evil empires of old went around the world there was no jumbo jets, one did not have ability to video people in country A to B.

SK did just as bad things in Vietnam as US has done in Iraq and the British has always done. You can insert any force dating back to history began. Closed information and limited perspective are not a positive force.

Please be mindful of your aggressions, how can you spark debate when you are trying to strike the 'fatal blow'? With economy, travel, Internet aren't we in a more world collective not stuck in a strong small collective.

The world has matured. We can grow organs, replace cancerous ones. Space travel is on the horizons. Nasa has a theory of warp drive. North Korea? The world is now so incredible how can you post closed minded hate from a time when you were yet born? Should we hate other countries for starting wars or hate our own for not stopping one?

Your country has only a few key companies. These all have grown from being given technologies from your evil empire or have been backward engineered. If these key companies collapse your country faces a very difficult challenge. Do you think that all this hate information you are being feed is designed to keep you working harder? What happens if SK's government stopped setting up its statues world wide? Might Japan might as for its money SK government borrowed back?

How deeply can you explore future problems with a mind set of an aggressive teenager with a broken beer bottle? More important what benefited does it have in this world?

Peace!

Re: Is Japan really shifting further away from pacifism?

Nonsense!

Re: Is Japan really shifting further away from pacifism?

Is that meaning you wanna bomb again? To be honest, I've been following Christopher Johnstons online war with Jake Adelstein and others and that sparked my interest. While I don't doubt, as with most situations in life, that some things aren't always fair and people get a raw deal. It sucks, and it's natural to want revenge and justice. But sometimes success is the best revenge. It's not always easy and knee-jerk emotional reactions can be difficult to overcome. I really wanted to read that this was a considered story that put weight behind the authors claims of life experience and greatness. Whether you're an author or a journalist or a foreign correspondent or blogger or backpacker or whatever, I'd expect these life experiences to shape and define a person. Maturity is a word that springs to mind. But if this is just another cliche "Gaijin in Japan" story with no substance and a complete lack of understanding of the devil in the detail that defines this wonderful, yet difficult country, then meh. Jake may be a total a-hole and full of shit for all I know, but at the very least he's a great story teller and clearly has a lot of respect for the good & bad in Japan. If the author is reading this, I'd like to say to you, please take some time to chill out and focus on yourself, rather than others. You can write, you probably have many interesting stories to tell. Play to your strengths & not to your weaknesses. I lived in Japan too, and if there is one thing I learnt, it's how to be humble and quietly achieve.

Re: Book Review: Kobe Blue

It's hypocritical turtles all the way down.

Re: Top 100 Anime List

Absolutely foolish. Naruto is a series that is only standing due to its oversized fandom.
The story is basic, the villain is just a combination of too many kinds of typical villains, and the hero is a typical shonen hero. The only thing that sets it aside as an anime is how in depth they go with things that BECOME commonplace in the series.
A strong storyline, interesting characters, UNFORSEEN plot twists.... THAT makes anime worth watching. When an anime is unique, or different in a new, interesting way, it's worth it. But I've seen Naruto's pointless plot done over and again by too many stupid shows. And what pisses me off is that there are THOUSANDS of you insufferable CHILDREN who claim to be "huge anime fans" or "otaku," even though you couldn't name ONE good anime without using Google.
I've been watching anime since I was a child. I didn't start with Pokémon, Cardcaptor Sakura, or Dragon Ball Z, like 90% of the people on this forum. I started with Hokuto no Ken, Slayers, and (yes, I admit) Sailor Moon. I know, with 80% certainty, that upon reading an anime's DESCRIPTION, I can accurately judge whether or not it's worth my time. Over the years, I've seen tons of good shows, and bad shows, and I know what to look, and look out for.
Vampire Hunter D
Saiyuki
Berserk
There you go, j. Clearly you're a shonen guy. Maybe these will give you a better perspective. I guarantee there isn't a single person on here fool enough to criticize these for all the world to see. Gotta warn you, though: After watching good anime, you slowly start to dislike bad anime. Then you rant at people in forums, grow out your hair, and collect swords. If this happens to you, just try to moderate it with small, potent doses of real life. :P

Re: Is Japan really shifting further away from pacifism?

The "Japanese militarism" scaremongering serves pretty much the same purpose as the German boogeyman in much of Europe.

Re: Book Review: Kobe Blue

I would have gone with "Orientalist garbage" but your description works as well.

Re: Japanese man impersonates Freddie Mercury

I think people are very misinformed about who the Parsis actually are. The term 'Parsi' is used to denote any member of a specific Zoroastrian community that resides in India/Pakistan and has resided in India and Pakistan since 900 A.D (originally from Iran). I have many Parsi friends and they all say they are 'Indian' and not 'Persian'. Almost no Parsi today maintains any ties with Iran and hardly any Parsi today speaks Farsi. They've assimilated so much with Indian culture that they speak Indian languages such as Hindi or Gujarati and besides a few of their unique customs, follow Indian customs and traditions.

Freddie Mercury and his entire family were Indian citizens up until they became British citizens when they immigrated to the UK. His parents' ancestry is from a small town called Bulsar (now called Valsad) in Gujarat, India which further strengthens my point that Freddie Mercury was an Indian. Freddie Mercury's mother herself mentioned that he and his sister could speak Gujarati

I hope that clears things up. :)

Re: Book Review: Kobe Blue

Well...we can debate the merits or lack thereof regarding his journalistic methods; won't argue that.
